The Luxor Hotel in a Glance
When the Luxor Hotel was inaugurated on the 15th of October in 1993, the pyramid-like establishment towers over the other buildings in Las Vegas. It was very visible for miles and the other buildings in the Strip paled in comparison with the Luxor. At that time, many casinos were being built in Las Vegas and they relied on themes to distinguish themselves from the other buildings.
As the name implies, Luxor is Egyptian influenced. In front of the hotel, you can see a re-enactment of the Sphinx, which also serves as the porte-cochere greeting the guests upon their arrival. There used to be a Nile River ride, which resembles the one found in Epcot Center at Disneyworld. While the Luxor was not listed in the seven wonders of the world, during that period it was an attraction in Las Vegas.
Today, the face of the Luxor is changing in order to add a modern look and remove any signs of its old look eighteen years ago. The renovation started a year ago, with the overhaul of the West Tower rooms, and will continue until next year. All its more than four thousand rooms would have been renovated by that time.
One of the major changes is the absence of RA Nightclub, which was one of the pioneer mega-nightclubs in Vegas. In its place now stands the LAX Nightclub, an extension of the Los Angeles night club. It is a contemporary state-of-the-art nightclub two stories high measuring 26,000 square feet. It opened its doors in August 2007 and since then developed integrity for being a celebrity hotspot. It is the home of Noir Bar. An adjacent bistro will be launched soon so that dining and gambling can be found in one venue.
The disappearance of the Nile River ride did not hinder people from seeking entertainment in the venue. There are nightly performers providing entertainment to the guests.
MGM Mirage, the mother company of Luxor, is set to spend $300 million in order to make the hotel attuned to the newer competitors on the Strip. As the renovation of the casino hotel carries on, additional venues for entertainment will be added for the benefit of its visitors. There will be new restaurants, nightclubs, and bars to cater to the needs of their customers. Slowly but surely the Egyptian look is slowly disappearing but gamblers and visitors will still be reminded of its trademark 30-story pyramid tower.
So when looking for a casino that would provide not only gambling but also other options, the Luxor hotel can offer you everything that you will need.
